Book 3 Chapters 1-3

Chapter 2
"Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past" (313)

This quote is very import and I believe it perfectly encapsulates the main idea that the book is based off of. To control the past and dictate what happened is to control how people will act in the future. We ten to make a lot of our decisions based on past events but if that is being controlled then the future can be controlled greatly. To control the present is in reverse reinstating the first part of the quote. To control what people do in the very moment means you are building a past for them to reflect on and refer back to to make decisions.

  1. I think your explanation is interesting because it is a different way than how i perceived it. I saw it as someone was able to control the present, they could control the past by having it told as they wish. For instance, the party controls what goes on, so they have the ability to erase history and say that nothing has ever happened. It's crazy how they have the ability to delete things and make people believe that it never existed.

  2. Although time is something that is indefinite, and whatever happens has a permanent affect, it is whether someone knows about to make it actually set in stone. The control over history books and controls the minds of those who are reading it and in turn, control those same peoples action in the future.
